Ragdoll Cats

The Ragdoll is a large, semi-longhaired cat, with gorgeous blue eyes. As the name suggests they are a floppy cat that loves a cuddle and 'flop - go limp' when you pick them up. Their coat is said to be non-matting, rabbit like but if you disregard it, knots can appear, especially under the front and hind legs.
Ragdolls have a superbly gentle, laid-back temperament that are totally devoted to their owners.

Ragdoll Breed Information: Trumagik Ragdolls

As kittens they are full of life and inquisitive and as they mature they become very loving, trusting cats that follow their owners everywhere. They become puppy-like and even learn to come to their name. They love human company and because of their gentle loving temperament are an indoor cat only.

Ragdolls are a slow maturing cat. Kittens are born white and their colour starts to come through at round a week old. Ragdolls don’t fully mature until 3 - 4yrs of age.

It is very important that your Ragdoll is an "Indoor" cat, as they are generally non-aggressive and would not defend themselves against outdoor world.

Today you can view many colours in the breed. Currently the main colours in the Ragdoll are Seal, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac, Red and Cream. They also come in Tortie and Tabby (Lynx) Patterns. Chocolate and Lilac are allot more difficult to acquire.

Since the original Panic Mouse is so popular with my two cats (Fritz and Kira), I was looking forward to assessing the new Garfield model, modeled on the lovable comic strip cat anti-hero and recent star of his own 'Garfield' movie . Having told them of the impending arrival of the toy, my cats looked blankly at me (nothing new there then!). Assembly was simplicity itself, and the curious felines were soon happily occupied for more than an hour, swatting at the flailing furry ball, before I finally shut the toy off. A real plus on this model is the automatic timer which can be set for up to two hours, in 15-minute increments. Another great feature is the "spring wand" (an optional attachment) which eliminates the broken cord accidents that have heppened with earlier models. Kira's a good hunter with great reaction times and she ususally tests things to destruction (including my patience sometimes!). If your cats are rough with their toys or you have a large or strong cat, I'd highly recommend getting the spring wand. Our original Panic Mouse has lasted over a year with no problems other than an occasional broken string or tip-over by overly energetic play. The Garfield version of Panic Mouse should offer even better perfomance.

Catnip Sock

Sprinkle a little catnip into the toe of an old sock, cut off the top, leaving about half an inch beyond the catnip. Stitch up the open end and it’s ready for your cat to enjoy. One of the games that my persian cat loved when she was in a playful mood was to go running down the long hallway and jump onto a loose mat and lie down and skid along the floor and rumple up the mat and get underneath the mat and jump out at you as you walked by.

Persian cats are wonderful pets for people of all ages. They have quiet, melodious meows that pleasant to hear, and they communicate quite well with their large, expressive eyes, offering enduring and close companionship to their owners. Another of their wonderful qualities is that they don't typically like jumping or climbing up on high places. They like their paws firmly planted on the ground. They are a playful but not a demanding cat. Persians love to drape themselves on a chair or in a favorite window to sun themselves, often appearing like a valuable piece of decor in the room. They are a constant source of joy and happiness, delighting their owners with tremendous responsiveness.

The Perfect Cat Toy

I wanted to give my cat a toy for Christmas, but I knew he was easily bored, and it would take a very special toy to get him excited.

I finally found something I thought would work. It looks a lot like this wand.
It's a wand with what looks like a long Christmas tree wreath. It's plastic, with hot pink center and white tips. The wreath is built with a metal thread, so it wafts lazily, a bit like a cat's tail. And the tip of the wreath has a few feathers with what I'd describe as a light weight. That way, the action is just right. And IT RUSTLES!!!!!

Pusur went wild. And since he usually goes wild Christmas Eve with all the gift wrappings, I combined the wand with the paper. Instant hit. No risk of me getting clawed by accident, and the rustling combined with the rustling paper got him all worked up.
Poor guy didn't want to get to bed. He kep looking at me late at night, hoping I'd come up with more fun...

If you want to buy your cat a toy like that, beware if your cat is the destructive type. The metal thread and plastic doesn't taste that good. In fact, Pusur lets go quickly. He's not the destructive type. He can keep toys for years without ruining them. But if yours is destructive, be careful exactly what materials, and how sturdy the wand is.

Update: The wand broke the second day, after I wrote this entry. Not because the cat is destructive, but because the wreath was made with metal thread. Metal that thin has a tendency to weaken if you twirl it around too much. A weakness in the design, would be my guess. I'm thinking of repairing it, and putting something else between the metal thread and the wand, to shore up the place where it would break a second time. Maybe a piece of string. But in the mean time, I accidentally made another wand out of a piece of ribbon and the wand.
